Just my opinion...
I think they are trying to create a panic of the "pandemic" so that people clamor for drugs. I think most of it is a lot of hooey.
There are good natural product to help boost your immune system, or fight the flu if necessary, but you don't hear about those, do you?
They are saying that the danger of it spreading and putting everyone in danger is basically assured. They have not said as of yet that it has become super deadly, which is a good thing but it is very catchy, even spread by third parties showing no signs of infection.
For England to have this much problem stomping it out in the summer bodes not well for all of us. Even if it does not become more deadly it certainly will infect more people than a typical flu bug would, therefore killing more than usual.
The dispuptions by real sickness and fear of sickness is going to be just one added factor to drive down the economy in the next 2 quarters.
Kathryn, this style of flu is somewhat like the 1918-19 flu in that it turns your immune system against the victim which is why current stats show its hitting healthy 25-45s hardest. Attempting to over stimulate your immune system might just make you more suceptable. Normal flu kills the weak, this flu and the spanish flu largely kill the strong.
I think that it doesn't really mean anything. Being an old Gomer such as yours truly, I remember routine and incorrect portents of doom and safety about the flu. The 1976 swine flu scare was especially wrong and memorable.
The flu is the flu. Occasionally it will get nasty and chew up a couple of percent of the population. Just the way it is.
It is much more important to worry if you have scalded the jars and lids for your jam.
It means put the internet down and walk away...go outside, play in the dirt...maybe explain to me why my tomato plants are no longer thriving.

I think like Hermit Jim and Degringolade. Basically it's out of control. And I heard today that there are already mutant varieties that don't respond to the drugs.

There's an old concoction called Thieve's Broth- I believe it had
Lavender
Sage
Thyme
Melissa (lemon balm)
Hyssop (Anise)
Peppermint
A handful of garlic cloves
Steep all in vinegar
The recipe was supposedly used by thieves during the black plague and they never got the disease.
Actually..these days I'd add oregano oil and olive tincture to the mix...powerful stuff.

Excellent recipe Gillette. You can buy a theives' oil combo from Young Living. They now have it formulated into a cleaner. I haven't bought commercial cleaning products in several years (vinegar & baking soda do most of it!) but i did get this. Like the scent.

I don't know if it is as mild as he is claiming. Someone i read said they had it pretty severe. But they didn't die & are recovering.
I don't think it means we're all going to die within weeks like I Am Legend or Outbreak, but that the disease is running its course.
We have problems with West Nile Virus here during summer, and I think one year my toddler got a mild case of it. He obviously recovered yet there were a few in our area that had died because of the disease, so it's all left to chance.
I think if it got super serious, they would mention it more than Michael Jackson tributes, so I guess just pay attention to media priorities!
I think if they started mentioning it more than MJ it would just because "they" want it to be.
Not that I have figured out who the great and powerful "they" is, but for some reason I'm pretty sure they're out there.

Crazy. We were all worked up about this flu and now we hear very little about it although people are dying from it.
I'm skeptical about this. Fewer people have died from swine flu than ordinary flu. The vaccine for avian flu is being pushed for this different strain & new vaccines are being rushed through with no testing. The advice across the water is now to catch it! (Report on radio RTE1 this morning ~ 2nd Sept.)
"Let's panic the people over swine flu & they'll forget how we buggered up the economy..." Just an idea
